A group of students from Hubei University traveled to the Danjiangkou Reservoir to make this video. Here, a remarkable story unfolds: as part of China's South-to-North Water Diversion Project — one of the largest water projects ever built — the reservoir's waters rose, and entire villages disappeared beneath the surface. Families who had lived there for generations packed their belongings and left, so that millions of people over a thousand kilometers away could turn on their taps and drink clean water.
In this video, the students meet a foreign friend and walk through this landscape of memory together. Through their conversation, cultural differences come to light — but so does something shared: the love of home. It reminds us that water flows north, but the heart always finds its way home.
