At noon that day, all five babies started crying at once. Mother Dil, father Ab, and Dil's aunt took turns picking them up and gently patting them to soothe them.
“The babies didn't nap well this morning, and now they're extremely tired and cranky, so they've been crying nonstop,” said Dil. “Back home in Xinjiang in previous years, relatives would gather for Mid-Autumn Festival — the whole family together, lively and joyful. Our relatives and friends aren't around us now, but as long as the children are healthy and we're together as a family, that's the best reunion there is.”
The couple misses their relatives in Xinjiang. “We video chat with our families every day, sharing funny stories about the five babies,” Ab said. Only after the little ones are asleep do they find time to call home.
Talking about caring for the quintuplets, Ab admitted that it was “too exhausting”. He has lost 11 kilos in seven months. What they find most overwhelming is the babies all needing something at the same time. “When they get hungry, all five cry at once. The three of us are scrambling and simply cannot keep up,” Ab said.
As the babies grow, daily expenses such as infant formula and diapers continue to mount. Dil told Jimu News that in the more than three months since the babies left the incubators, the family has spent over 30,000 yuan on formula alone. “The pressure is really intense.”
The couple are deeply grateful for the attention and well-wishes from social media, and cherish their time in Wuhan all the more. On September 20, they took their quintuplets to visit Yellow Crane Tower. Dil said, “This is our first visit to Yellow Crane Tower since coming to Wuhan, and we’re so happy.”
During the Mid-Autumn Festival, the young parents had a special message for their five babies:“We hope the children stay healthy and safe, behave well, and give us fewer worries.”
Ab revealed that they had planned to return to their home in Xinjiang on October 8, but their oldest child’s surgery in December has forced them to delay the trip.
