7月1日晚，美中航空遗产基金会主席杰夫·格林率飞虎队老兵后代威廉·坎登伯格及美国飞虎队友谊学校师生一行乘高铁抵达武汉。
On the evening of July 1, Jeff Greene, Chairman of the Sino-American Aviation Heritage Foundation, arrived in Wuhan by high-speed rail, leading a delegation that included William Kampdenberg, descendant of a Flying Tigers veteran, and teachers and students from U.S. Flying Tigers Friendship Schools.
“非常高兴能再次来到湖北武汉！”杰夫·格林表示，本次共有约100名美国学生参加“飞虎队友谊学校”项目，希望美国学生在湖北能玩得开心，并与中国学生进行深入交流。
"I'm truly delighted to be back in Hubei and Wuhan once more!" said Jeff Greene. He noted that around 100 U.S. students are participating in the "Flying Tigers Friendship Schools" program this time, and expressed his hope that they would enjoy their time in Hubei and engage in meaningful exchanges with their Chinese peers.

“中美青少年交流非常重要！这次活动也让我感到非常激动。我们会给他们讲述飞虎队的故事，这份共同的历史也将会伴随他们一生。”格林说。
"Exchanges between Chinese and American youth are of great importance! This event fills me with great excitement. We will share the stories of the Flying Tigers with them, and this shared history will stay with them for a lifetime," Greene said.

据了解，“飞虎队友谊使者美国青少年湖北行”活动将于7月2日至5日在武汉举行，主题为“传承飞虎友谊，共育时代知音”，期间将举办“2026飞虎队青少年领袖对话会”、为湖北省首批“飞虎队友谊学校”授牌，并举行一系列交流参访活动。
According to organizers, the "Flying Tigers Friendship Envoys – American Youth Tour of Hubei" will be held in Wuhan from July 2 to 5, under the theme "Carrying Forward Flying Tigers Friendship, Cultivating Bosom Friends of the Era." The program will feature the "2026 Flying Tigers Youth Leadership Dialogue," the inauguration ceremony for the first batch of "Flying Tigers Friendship Schools" in Hubei Province, as well as a lineup of collaborative and educational excursions.
“我非常喜欢中国！这已经是我第四次有幸造访中国了。”美国飞虎队老兵后代、美中航空遗产基金会教育委员会成员威廉·坎登伯格说，他喜欢讲述那些与中国军民并肩作战的飞行员的故事。“当年中国人倾尽所有去营救那些飞行员，他们合作得那么默契。这也是我们习惯的交流方式：在竞争中互相学习彼此的文化，学会如何成为朋友，从而进一步加深两国之间的关系。”他说。
“I have a deep affection for China! This marks my fourth precious visit to China.” said William Kampdenberg, descendant of a Flying Tigers veteran and member of the Education Committee of the Sino-American Aviation Heritage Foundation. He is devoted to sharing stories of U.S. pilots who fought side by side with Chinese troops and civilians. “Back then, the Chinese people spared no effort to rescue those downed airmen. The two sides cooperated so seamlessly. This is the way we have always engaged with each other: learning about each other’s cultures amid competition, forging friendships, and further deepening bilateral ties,” he remarked.
威廉·坎登伯格的外祖父、美军飞行员罗德尼·罗斯·怀尔德1942年随杜立特行动队对日本本土实施战略打击后，在浙江上空因轰炸机油料耗尽被迫跳伞，跌落在衢州山区的夜色中，被当地村民冒险相救后得以生还。
Kampdenberg’s maternal grandfather, U.S. Army Air Forces pilot Rodney Ross Wilder, took part in the Doolittle Raid to strike targets on Japan’s home islands in 1942. Low on fuel mid-air over Zhejiang after the mission, he was forced to bail out. He parachuted into the mountains near Quzhou under cover of night, and local villagers risked their lives to save him.
2025年7月26日至30日，杰夫·格林曾率领由飞虎队老兵后代及美国飞虎队友谊学校师生组成的代表团一行80余人访问湖北，并走进位于红安的李先念故居纪念园，瞻仰李先念故居、本尼达墓并献花。
From July 26 to 30, 2025, Jeff Greene headed a delegation of over 80 members, including descendants of Flying Tigers veterans, teachers and students from Flying Tigers Friendship Schools in the United States, on a visit to Hubei Province. The group toured the Former Residence Memorial Park of Li Xiannian in Hong’an County, where they paid homage to the residence and laid flowers at the tomb of Glen Beneda.
1944年5月，20岁的“飞虎队”队员格伦·本尼达在执行攻击日军汉口基地任务时，战机被击中，坠落在湖北监利周老嘴镇罗家村。他身负重伤跳伞，经当地村民近60天“生死救援”后重返部队。
In May 1944, Glen Beneda, then a 20-year-old member of the Flying Tigers, was shot down while carrying out a mission against a Japanese military base in Wuhan’s Hankou District. His aircraft crashed in Luojia Village, Zhoulaozui Town of Jianli, Hubei Province. Seriously injured, Beneda parachuted to safety and received nearly 60 days of life-saving care from local villagers, who risked their own safety to protect and nurse him back to health before he was able to rejoin his unit.
回到美国后，本尼达一直没有忘记救助过他的中国人，先后三次携家人来到中国，其中两次到湖北重访故地表达谢意。
After returning to the United States, Beneda never forgot the Chinese people who had saved his life. He visited China three times with his family, including two trips to Hubei to revisit the village where he had been rescued and to express his heartfelt gratitude.
2005年，在中国人民抗日战争胜利60周年之际，本尼达等45名飞虎队老兵在杰夫·格林带领下重返中国。其中，本尼达携妻子、儿孙重返当年被中国村民冒死营救的村庄（原监利县周老嘴镇罗家村）。
In 2005, on the 60th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, Beneda joined 44 other Flying Tigers veterans on a return visit to China led by Jeff Greene. Accompanied by his wife, children and grandchildren, Beneda revisited Luojia Village—the very place where Chinese villagers had risked their lives to save him more than six decades earlier.
他曾说：“中国人称飞虎队为英雄，其实中国人民才是真正的英雄，他们给了我第二次生命。”
"Chinese people call the Flying Tigers heroes," Beneda once said. "But it is the Chinese people who are the true heroes. They gave me a second life."
2010年，本尼达去世后，家人遵照其遗愿，将他的部分骨灰安放在红安李先念故居纪念园。
After Beneda passed away in 2010, some of his ashes were interred at the Li Xiannian Former Residence Memorial Park in Hong'an, Hubei Province, in accordance with his final wishes.
为纪念这段历史，监利市周老嘴镇原罗家村、长河村、七台村合并更名为飞虎队村。
To commemorate this period of history, the former Luojia, Changhe and Qitai villages in Zhoulaozui Town, Jianli City, were merged and renamed Flying Tigers Village.
