Recently, a patient battling a ruptured liver following a car accident was urgently admitted to the Xincheng Campus of Jingzhou First People’s Hospital in Hubei Province (hereinafter referred to as Jingzhou First Hospital). During surgery, the patient lost over 2000ml of blood, experienced a sudden drop in blood pressure, all while the hospital faced a shortage of type A blood at its blood bank.

危急时刻,医院启动紧急预案,向总院申请调配A型红细胞。借助运载无人机,原本需要至少35分钟的人工转运,仅用了约7分钟。当晚8时35分许,患者完成3800ML的输血,血压逐步回升正常。
At this critical moment, the hospital activated its emergency plan, requesting type A red blood cells from its main campus. Using drone delivery, the journey—which would have taken at least 35 minutes by regular courier—was completed in just about 7 minutes. By 8:35 PM that evening, after receiving 3800ml of blood, the patient’s blood pressure gradually returned to normal.

Dr. Peng Tao, the attending physician, said that the drone delivery saved 28 critical minutes, calling it “key to the rescue success.” On the afternoon of June 27th, Jingzhou First Hospital held a maiden flight ceremony for its drone delivery services. This marks the first instance of a Grade-A tertiary hospital in the Jianghan Plain leveraging drones to advance smart healthcare, creating a benchmark for aerial medical delivery services.
30分钟物资转运缩短至7分钟
30-Minute Delivery Time Reduced to Mere 7 Minutes
当天下午,位于荆州一医新城院区的副主任护师白仙草,将一个装有检验样本和病理标本的医药箱放入无人机货舱。
That afternoon, Bai Xiancao, a Deputy Chief Nurse at the Xincheng campus of Jingzhou First Hospital, placed a medical box containing test samples and pathology samples into the drone’s cargo hold.
“三、二、一,起飞!”随着操控指令下达,一款国产运载无人机发出轰隆的桨叶旋转声,随后缓缓升空,逐渐消失在众人视野中。
“Three, two, one, lift-off!” Following the verbal command, a domestically developed delivery drone powered on, its rotors spinning as it ascended and disappeared from view.
通过监控画面,极目新闻记者看到,无人机摄像头实时回传着城市航拍的稳定画面,飞行速度、高度、目的地距离等参数与普通的无人机并无二样。
Monitoring live feed from the drone mid-flight, Jimu News reporters could see clearly the stable aerial footage of the city transmitted by the drone’s camera. Its flight speed, altitude, and distance to destination appeared similar to those of normal drones.
6分41秒后,无人机精准降落在位于荆州市沙市区江汉北路的荆州一医总院区停机坪。紧接着,医护人员取出医药箱,随即进行了送检分析。
After 6 minutes and 41 seconds, the drone landed perfectly on the landing pad at Jingzhou First Hospital’s main campus on Jianghan North Road in Shashi District. Medical staff promptly retrieved the medical box and sent the contents for analysis.
荆州一医总院区与新城院区直线距离6.5公里,按照常规的人工转运流程,单次医疗物资转运需要花费约30分钟。长江大学第一临床医学院副院长王岱说,通过无人机转运,可将时间缩短至约7分钟,此举可大幅缩短转运时长。
The straight-line distance between the main campus and Xincheng Campus is 6.5 km. Conventional delivery methods take about 30 minutes per trip. “Using drones shortens this to roughly 7 minutes, significantly cutting transit time,” said Wang Dai, Vice Dean of Yangtze University’s First Clinical Medical School.
每天6班次打造“低空生命线”
Six Daily Flights of “Lifesaving Drones”
据无人机技术人员介绍,此款运载无人机最大载重为40千克,时速可达72公里,其庞大、精密的机身和大片的桨叶能提供强大的抗风能力和避雨能力。
According to drone technicians, this medical drone has a maximum payload capacity of 40 kg and can reach speeds of 72 km/h. Its robust, compact body paired with large rotors provides strong wind resistance and rain protection.
在5G+北斗定位系统的加持下,该运载无人机可实现紧急救援支持、低空物流运输等功能。“急救药品、病理标本等都能通过它进行运输。”王岱说,据测算,无人机单次飞行的成本相比于人工转运,费用降低了40%。
Equipped with 5G and BeiDou positioning systems, the drone is a gamechanger in emergency rescues and aerial deliveries. “From urgently needed medications to pathology specimens, everything can be transported using medical drones,” Wang Dai explained. Calculations show each drone flight costs 40% less than a traditional courier.
投运后,荆州一医总院与新城院区每天将安排6个飞行班次,日常主要用于两院区间的检验样本、病理标本、紧急物资的转运。“紧急情况下,可执行医疗救援任务,还能实现精准直达,实时监控。”王岱说。此次首飞的成功,打通了两院区间的“空中生命通道”,开创了江汉平原三甲医院应用无人机转运的先河,也为优质医疗服务打开了一条高效的“低空生命线”。
Upon launch, six daily flights will be scheduled between Jingzhou First Hospital’s main campus and Xincheng Campus, mainly for the transportation of test samples, pathology specimens, and emergency supplies. “In emergencies, it can perform emergency rescue missions and achieve precise delivery and real-time monitoring,” said Wang Dai. The success of this inaugural flight has opened up an “aerial lifeline” between the two hospitals, pioneering the use of drone deliveries in Grade-A tertiary hospitals in the Jianghan Plain. These “lifesaving drones” are a great start towards high-quality patient care.
