明前茶,贵如金。

Tea before the Qingming Festival is of great value.

4月4日,清明时节,武汉江夏。江夏区山坡街光明村韩家湾的茶场内,一芽一叶一抹香,一人一篓采茶忙。

It’s April 4, Qingming Festival, in Wuhan Jiangxia. In the tea fields of Hanjiawan, Jiangxia District, everyone is busy picking tea.

青山秀水出好茶。茶场滨临梁子湖,紧挨天子山,山水相映,气候宜人,特别适合茶叶生长。通过无人机航拍的镜头,只见绿色茶树漫坡遍野,一垄垄茶树错落有致,形成一道道亮丽风景线。

Lush mountains and lucid waters produce good tea. Adjacent to Liangzi Lake and Tianzi Mountain, one tea field enjoys charming mountains and rivers and a fine climate suitable for tea growing. Viewed through the lens of a drone, a breathtaking scenery of green tea trees covers the slopes which are lined into strips of tea tree bushes.

极目新闻记者现场看到,茶农们身上挂着竹篓茶袋,穿梭于茶树间,手指翻飞,娴熟地轻捻茶树上的嫩芽,一派丰收热闹景象。

The Jimu News reporter saw a lively scene of tea farmers, bamboo baskets and bags hanging off their backs, moving between the tea trees as their fingers deftly twisted the buds off the tea trees.

江夏光明茶久负盛名。据记载,从1986年开始,山坡光明茶场生产的绿茶曾连续4年获湖北省优质产品,畅销全省各地。

Jiangxia Guangming Tea has enjoyed a longstanding reputation. According to records, since 1986, the green tea produced by Shanpo Guangming Tea Farm has been awarded high-quality product of Hubei Province for four consecutive years and has sold well all across the province.

从1991年传承制茶至今,江夏光明茶第三代非遗传承人韩英胜,已在这片茶场里坚守三十多个年头了。

Since 1991, Han Yingsheng, the third-generation intangible cultural heritage inheritor of Jiangxia Guangming Tea, has been working in this tea field for more than 30 years.

他告诉记者,江夏光明茶之所以回味悠长、唇齿留香,除了芽叶品质特优外,还有一个重要原因,就是制茶工艺。

He told the reporters that the reason for the long-lasting fragrance of Jiangxia Guangming tea is the superior quality of buds and leaves and more importantly, the tea-making process.

除了传承传统手工制茶工艺,韩英胜还将手工制茶与机械化制茶相结合,坚持半手工半机械化的制茶流程,既保留了手工之匠心,又弥补了手工制茶效率低、茶叶厚薄不均的弊病。

Han Yingsheng also combined the advantages of manual tea making with modern mechanized tea making in addition to inheriting this longstanding cultural technique. His adherence to the semi-manual and semi-mechanized tea making process has not only retained the craftsmanship of manual tea making, but also made up for the disadvantages of manual tea making which include low efficiency and uneven thickness of tea leaves.

“纯机械化取代手工虽然产量高,但制作出的茶味道比较寡淡,没有茶应有的回味和香甜。为了保证茶的品质,即使工艺复杂,费时费力,我们还是坚持手工制茶,将光明茶的品质进一步做好。”韩英胜说道。

“Although mechanized tea making produces higher yields than manual tea making, the tea produced is less flavorful and lacks the lingering fragrance and sweetness that tea should have. In order to ensure the quality, we have insisted on making tea by hand to further improve the quality of Guangming tea even though the process is complex and time-consuming.” said Han Yingsheng.

守住茶山,传承茶味。江夏光明茶条索纤细,芽叶细嫩,色翠香幽。清明时节,手里捧上一杯光明茶,茶汤清爽、沁人心脾。

Protecting the Tianzi tea hill, is preserving Guangming tea. Jiangxia Guangmiing tea strips are slender, the buds and leaves delicate, and fresh. A sip of Guangming tea brewed from tea leaves plucked during the Qingming Festival, is nothing short of refreshing and aromatic.

作为国家农产品地理标志产品,江夏光明茶畅销全国,已成为江夏的一张新名片。而韩英胜也凭借匠心传承、守正创新,续写着这片“东方树叶”新的传奇。

With it’s geographical uniqueness and status as a national agricultural product, Jiangxia Guangming Tea has sold well countrywide becoming a new business trademark of Jiangxia. As for Han Yingsheng, by his ingenious and innovative spirit, he continues to pass down this teamaking technique, turning a new page in the legend of “Oriental Tea leaves”.
