Hubei launched a cuisine map at a special session for promoting Hubei cuisines at the 4th China International Consumer Products Expo on April 14, 2024.
The map is actually an applet of WeChat called“楚菜美食地图”, on which, Hubei’s famous cuisines and snacks as well as pictures, brief introductions and recommended restaurants of them are recorded. The map also introduces the food streets popular with foodies in the cities across the province.
Hubei used to be the state of Chu in the Spring and Autumn Period (770-475 BC) and the Warring States Period (476-221 BC), so Hubei cuisines are called “Chucai”. Through creation and change over the last around 2,800 years, Hubei people have developed thousands of ways to cook wonderful dishes — frying, steaming, stewing, roasting, salting, pickling, etc, making Hubei cuisine one of the ten genres of cuisine in China.
