Wuhan Launches Citywide “Ice Coolers of Kindness”: 13 Locations Provide Unlimited Refreshments for Outdoor Workers

8月20日，在武汉市江汉区花楼水塔街华中社区，环卫工人刘凤娥和同事打开一台“爱心冰柜”，取出一瓶矿泉水畅饮起来。“真是解渴又方便。”刘凤娥说。
On August 20, in the Huazhong Community of Hualou Water Tower Street, Jianghan District, Wuhan City, sanitation worker Liu Feng’e and her colleagues opened an “ice coolers of kindness” and took out a bottle of mineral water. “It is truly a convenient setup for outdoor workers,” Liu Feng’e said.
在武汉街头，由美团、哈啰、青桔等三家企业设置的“爱心冰柜”，陆续在7个中心城区的13处点位投入使用，为高温下坚守岗位的户外劳动者送去清凉与关爱。
On the streets of Wuhan, “ice coolers of kindness” set up by three companies — Meituan, Hello and Qingju — have gradually been put into use at 13 locations across seven central urban districts, bringing relief to outdoor workers who remain at their posts in the high temperatures.

这场爱心接力的源头，要从一瓶“一分钱”的饮用水说起。2025年1月，在汉阳区杨泗港经营烧烤店的刘学灿为回报社会，设置“一分钱自助售货机”，户外工作者只需花一分钱，就能买到一盒泡面或一瓶饮用水。多名共享单车运维人员享受这一关爱后，及时向各自所在公司反映此事。美团、哈啰、青桔等三家共享单车企业深受触动，主动联系汉阳区城管部门，表达设置“爱心冰柜”的想法。
The inspiration behind this relay of kindness can be traced back to a bottle of drinking water that cost “one fen” — one-hundredth of a yuan. In January 2025, Liu Xuecan, who runs a barbecue restaurant in Yangsigang, Hanyang District, set up a “one-fen self-service vending machine” to give back to society. Outdoor workers only needed to pay one fen to get a cup of instant noodles or a bottle of drinking water. After several shared-bike maintenance workers benefited from the initiative, they relayed their experience to their respective companies. Deeply touched by the gesture, Meituan, Hello and Qingju, the three shared-bike companies, took the initiative to contact the urban management authorities in Hanyang District and expressed their idea of setting up “ice coolers of kindness.”
今年7月23日，第一台“爱心冰柜”在汉阳区王家湾汉商21世纪购物中心服务站旁设立，免费向环卫工人、外卖小哥、快递员、单车运维人员等户外劳动者免费开放。
On July 23 this year, the first “ice coolers of kindness” was set up beside the service station at Hanshang 21st Century Shopping Center in Wangjiwan, Hanyang District. It was opened free of charge to outdoor workers, including sanitation workers, food delivery riders, couriers and shared-bike maintenance workers.
此事经楚天都市报极目新闻报道后，引发广泛关注。武汉市城管部门联合三家共享单车企业，携手将“爱心冰柜”从汉阳区推广至武汉三镇。
After the story was reported by Jimu News, it attracted widespread attention. Wuhan’s urban management authorities, together with the three shared-bike companies, collaborated to broaden the reach of the “ice coolers of kindness” from Hanyang District to all three major towns of Wuhan.
8月20日上午，极目新闻记者在江汉区邮三社区、华中社区看到，陆续有环卫工人、快递小哥前来“爱心冰柜”取水。
On the morning of Aug. 20, Jimu News reporters saw sanitation workers and couriers coming one after another to collect water from the “ice coolers of kindness” in Yousan Community and Huazhong Community in Jianghan District.
“华中社区周边商圈密集，环卫工人、外卖小哥等户外工作者往来频繁。当‘爱心冰柜’存量不足60%时，我们的工作人员会及时补充。”华中社区党委书记朱浩说。
“The area around Huazhong Community has many commercial centers, and outdoor workers such as sanitation workers and delivery riders come and go frequently. When the water supply in the ‘ice coolers of kindness’ falls below 60 percent, our staff will replenish it in time,” said Zhu Hao, Party secretary of Huazhong Community.
硚口区武汉普瑞眼科医院门口的“爱心冰柜”装满瓶装水。该院负责人孙创告诉记者：“冰柜就设在医院保安室旁边，我们随时盯着冰柜存量，低于60%就赶紧补充，绝不让户外工作者扑空。”
An “ice coolers of kindness” stocked with bottled water has been placed at the entrance of Wuhan Purui Eye Hospital in Qiaokou District. Sun Chuang, the hospital’s person in charge, told reporters: “The freezer is right next to the security booth. We keep a close eye on its stock and replenish it as soon as it drops below 60 percent, so that outdoor workers never find it empty.”
在凯德广场武胜路店商圈的户外工作驿站，刚送完一单的骑手小秦喝着“爱心冰柜”的饮用水感慨道：“驿站里有空调、有座椅，还有冰水，像个小家一样。”
At an outdoor worker service station in the commercial area of CapitaLand Plaza on Wusheng Road, a delivery rider surnamed Qin, who had just finished an order, enjoyed a bottle of water from the cooler and said with appreciation: “The station has air conditioning, seats, and chilled water—it feels just like a little home.”
该点位负责人钟占兵表示，每天上午8时到晚上10时，“爱心冰柜”都有专人维护，高峰时段每小时巡查一次，保证供水不断。
Zhong Zhanbing, the site manager, said that the freezer is staffed by a dedicated attendant from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, with patrols once an hour during peak hours to ensure a steady supply of water.
记者了解到，江岸、汉阳、武昌、青山、洪山等5个城区的“爱心冰柜”，也将在近期陆续投入使用，传递这座城市的善意与温度。
Officials shared that similar “ice coolers of kindness” will be put into operation in the coming days in five other districts of Wuhan—Jiang'an, Hanyang, Wuchang, Qingshan, and Hongshan—continuing to spread the city’s goodwill and warmth to workers bracing Wuhan’s scorching summers.
